24) Siem Reap – Cambodia

During our travels we witnessed all sorts of ways to get charity from tourists. Some were, or pretended to be disabled, others performed and others lay on the ground with a can and maybe a dog. I always found it the hardest to watch people begging with babies. It’s so unfair to the child, who has now become a product. At the same time it’s impossible to get angry, because often this is their only way of survival and it’s not possible to put yourself in their shoes. Often life is all about getting through the day, not saving up for a trip abroad or a flat-screen for the guestroom. It’s about using all resources, one day at the time.
