6) Waiotapu – New Zealand
It’s amazing how far you can travel and still feel like home. Even though geographically New Zealand is the furthest from Iceland, I have found the most similarities between the two. The geothermal wonderland of Waiotapu makes you feel like you are back home in Iceland; the boiling springs, clean air and amazing scenery sees to that. There is just more of everything. The geothermal area is ten times bigger than the Geysir area, there are ten times the people and ten times the sheep. Not to mention the nice weather and people. Travelling the world and suddenly feeling like you are at home is wonderful feeling, it’s a rest from the otherwise exotic situations you face daily.
